Passion Fruit & Ginger Parfait
Serves 4
- 2 large passion fruits, halved
- 200ml (7fl oz) condensed milk
- 50g (2oz) stem ginger in syrup, roughly chopped
- 150ml (¼pt) Greek yogurt
- 150ml (¼pt) water
Scoop the flesh from the passion fruits into a large bowl. Stir in the remaining ingredients and mix well. Freeze for 1-2 hrs or until slushy. Stir the mixture well to break up the ice crystals. Line a 450g (1lb) loaf tin with clingfilm and transfer the mixture to the tin. Freeze until solid (approx. 2 hrs). To serve, remove from the freezer and allow to stand for 10 mins, then serve in slices drizzled with raspberry coulis and fresh raspberries. |

18 to 21 April, 2010
Forty of us left Henley on 18th April at 8.30am for our great cultural four-day trip to Liverpool. We stopped on route at an M40 service station near Warwick that was not very good! In its previous manifestation it was a Granada service station, which had excellent food. We then drove on to Shugborough Hall, a National Trust property in the Midlands. Shugborough Hall dates from around 1720 and is the home of the Earls of Lichfield (Thomas Anson and the naval Ansons). Another famous Anson, the vice Admiral Anson also lived here. He was famed for capturing all the gold from the Spanish galleon bringing great wealth to England and much cash for the Hanoverian King George 2nd. We discovered that there is no Lichfield family member currently in resident at Shugborough since the Earl Patrick died. After enjoying an excellent hot pot lunch, we continued our journey onto Liverpool for the many surprises ahead.

Ayrshire, in Scotland, is the unlikely location of a village called Moscow - there is also a burn (stream) that runs through the village named the Volga burn. Geographically aware readers will immediately realise that the other Volga is nowhere near the other Moscow.
The naming of that village and the burn are lost in antiquity.
However it does give the writer the opportunity to write that with some good friends we are planning a wee adventure, by motorcycle, from Moscow to Moscow to Moscow. The ride, from Moscow (Ayrshire) to Moscow (Russian Federation) and back will take about 6 weeks.

Despite the problems caused by the appaling weather at the end of 2009 and the beginning of 2010, which contributed to the cancellation of a small number of courses, during the last academic year the Reading branch of the WEA ran an interesting and varied programme of short courses during the day and evening and some highly successful study days.

Well the World Cup (football) is over but I see the tele is now swamped with golf and all sorts of other sports. Well done Spain and my condolences to a certain farrier who is a Dutchman.
The Sweepstake we organised for the benefit of The Neville Hall Charitable trust is over. I and a few others marked all the entry forms. It was just as well we did not get all the forms we had hoped for as it took some hours to mark and collate the papers we had received. I am pleased to say one David Ellis was the winner. Gary Gandin will be advising the top 10 of their winnings. I would also take this opportunity to thank all those who took part.
